Winter Mountaineering

In the winter the Scottish mountains take on a very different guise. Even the easiest summer ascent can be a difficult, arduous and time consuming endeavour in the winter months.

To make matters worse, a distinct lack of daylight and increased hazards makes the process of planning and organising even more critical than in summer. Alpine starts and dark finishes are common, so being well equipped and well prepared to be exposed to harsh conditions all day long will certainly help towards a successful outcome.

Why not take the stress of planning out of the equation by booking Craig Dubh Adventures to do the hard work for you? Fully qualified to lead you in winter conditions, we can organise your day to best suit your requirements. And better still, you can leave all the tricky judgement calls to us! We provide ice axes, crampons and helmets in the price, and can direct you to places you can hire boots, if required.

When you head into the hills with us we aim not only to guide but also to educate, and so we will endeavour to explain the reasoning behind our route choices, taking into consideration the hazards, time restrictions and weather conditions which have shaped our decisions - and you may learn a few useful winter tricks along the way!

Scroll left and right to get a taster of some of the winter mountain experiences we offer, but remember we can guide you on any other mountain, so get in touch directly and we can start to build your adventure.

Testimonials

Great day out, no better way to learn than to be out and about with someone who knows their stuff and Craig definitely knows his stuff! Good craic and took away lots of knowledge from the experience!
