CRAIG DUBH ADVENTURES PARTICIPATION STATEMENT

Craig Dubh Adventures recognises that Hill Walking, Climbing, Mountaineering & Mountain Biking are activities with a risk of personal injury or death. Participants in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions.

Deposit & Payment

Upon booking a Guided Day, Skills Course or any other Service you are required to pay a deposit (£50 if course cost is under £200, £100 if course cost is over £200). This can be made using PayPal, Bank Transfer or cheque. The Booking will not be confirmed until payment of this Deposit is made and cleared. The remaining sum will then be due no later than 28 days prior to the course start date. Craig Dubh Adventures reserves the right to cancel any activity should clients fail to pay within this time frame. Any deposits will be non-refundable.

Confirmation of Booking

Bookings will only be confirmed once a deposit has been paid. You will receive an email with confirmation of this, along with other relevant information to help you to prepare for your activity.

Insurance & Safety

We strongly recommend that you obtain Personal Insurance prior to the start of the day/course. If you are a member of the Mountaineering Council of Scotland this is included in your membership. If you are a Member of the BMC they also provide insurance, please contact them for more information. Any person partaking in a Guided Day or Skills Course, whether on foot or on a bike, should be aware that mountain sports are potentially hazardous and will have a certain element of risk. By booking with us you are acknowledging these risks and accepting these Terms & Conditions. Participants should ensure that they are fit enough to undertake their relevant course. Walking & Mountain Biking in the mountains, particularly in Winter, can be arduous and hard work. It is not a race to the summit by any standards, but being fit and capable increases your chances of success and allows you to enjoy the journey more. You must ensure you inform us of any medical conditions prior to heading out using the Client Information Form. If circumstances change immediately prior to the activity, please inform us ASAP. Please contact me if you are concerned about any of this. There is no guarantee that we will reach the summit of any given mountain. Safety is paramount and any objectives will be overridden should safety be jeopardised. You must follow the advice and instructions of your guide at all times. Failure to so will release you from their responsibility. If you are having issues or problems on the day, please speak to your guide. We are here to help and make you feel at ease at all times. Participants are responsible for bringing their own food, drink and kit, as listed in the relevant Kit Lists. Failure to do so, or turning up poorly equipped or under the influence of alcohol or drugs could lead to cancellation of the course, in which case the course fee is Non-Refundable. Craig Dubh Adventures takes no responsibility for the condition of personal or hired kit which is the clients sole responsibility. Furthermore, the clients accept that they will cover the full cost of damaged or lost hire items under their care. Persons under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or responsible Guardian.

Itinerary Chances

We strive to be able to meet your expectations in every possible way, providing you with a high quality, memorable experience at all times. However, the very nature of the outdoors, particularly in Scotland, can mean that at the last moment weather conditions can be deemed unsafe, and the planned itinerary will need to change. A lack of appropriate fitness or unforeseen health issues such as colds may also change the course of the day. Changes to the itinerary may include slight variations on the planned activity; a complete change of activity; or cancellation. If Craig Dubh Adventures cancels the day/course you will be given a FULL Refund (including Deposit) or given the chance to rearrange a suitable date. The rearranged date will be fixed, and if the client later decides that they cannot make the date, then Craig Dubh Adventures are under no obligation to provide a refund or rearrange. Craig Dubh Adventures take no responsibility for the cost of rearranged transport, accommodation or kit hire regardless of the reasons for cancellation/rearrangement.

Cancellations

Deposits are non-refundable if the client cancels for any reason. If YOU cancel the day/course for whatever reason: If More than 21 days before the start date: You will receive all payments made except your deposit. If Less than 21 days before the start date: you will receive no refund If Craig Dubh Adventures cancels the day/course you will be given a FULL Refund (including Deposit) or given the chance to rearrange a suitable date. We recommend you take out holiday or cancellation insurance to cover your costs in the event of you, or us, cancelling an activity.

Children & Vulnerable Adults

Children under the age of 18 and vulnerable adults must be accompanied by a parent or responsible adult on any of our excursions. All of our guides will be vetted through Disclosure Scotland scheme or be member of the PVG Scheme. Please contact us for more details.

Staff

Although most of our trips will be guided by Craig himself, during busy periods other guides may be used. These guides are all vetted personally by us, and meet our extremely high standards both in personal professionalism, qualifications, knowledge base and personality. They are all fully insured and have your best interests at heart. We and our staff will always treat you with courteousness and respect. We expect to be treated in the same way. Any abuse - physical, verbal, racial or sexual - will not be tolerated in any way, and will be dealt with through appropriate channels.

Fitness & Ability

It is expected that anyone booking an activity with Craig Dubh Activities will be fit and active enough to complete their desired itinerary. By booking with us you acknowledge that this is a necessity to mitigate the chances of this becoming an issue for other travellers and your guide. Upon booking we will seek information regarding your current fitness and exercise regime. Please be honest with us. Having climbed Snowdon 20 years ago is not relevant fitness experience today! We are more than happy to discuss ways to improve fitness, and the types of exercises which may make your day with us less stressful and more enjoyable.

Kit & Nutrition

Please refer to our comprehensive Kit Lists to inform you of what you should be bringing with you on activity. We emphasise essential items, as well as pointing out extras which may make things easier or more enjoyable on the day. Please bring enough food and water for the excursion. Cereal bars, nuts, dried fruit, energy gels, sandwiches, wraps and chocolate are all perfectly acceptable things to bring along. We would recommend bringing extra as emergency food. 2-3 litres of water will be appropriate for many activities, although in some circumstances we will be able to refill. Get in touch at any time to discuss further.

Use of Photographs

On all of our trips we will take photographs, both of the scenery and of the group. By Booking with us you acknowledge and accept that these photographs can and will be used for promotional purposes including website design, flyers & social media. If you have any problems with this please inform us and we can ensure that you are excluded from any phorographs on the day.

Punctuality

If for any reason you will be late to meet your guide at the agreed time, it is imperative to inform us as soon as possible, preferably the day before the activity takes place. On the day itself things such as acts of God, road closures or problems at your accommodation are all understandable reasons for being late and can be accommodated within reason. However, reasons such as poor planning or poor personal time management are avoidable. In these circumstances, unless otherwise specified, we will await you at the meeting point for 60 minutes before altering the days activity or potentially cancelling outright. This is for safety reasons, particularly in non-summer months when there is less daylight and more volatile weather conditions .
